Experience the Magic of Sparkle Ball Lane in Fullerton

Dive into the heart of Fullerton this holiday season and discover the dazzling spectacle of Sparkle Ball Lane. A neighborhood transformed into a glimmering paradise, where every home becomes a canvas for festive lights and community artistry.

The journey of Sparkle Ball Lane began in 2002 with Don Bales, a local resident with a vision for something extraordinary. His innovation? A sparkle ball made from 50 clear plastic cups, meticulously soldered together and illuminated with twinkling Christmas lights. This simple yet brilliant idea quickly captivated his neighbors, including Robert Pillon and Jeff Proud, who eagerly joined the burgeoning tradition.

By 2004, the sparkle ball initiative had blossomed into a community-wide project, with residents like Bill Courtney, Bobbie McCoy, and Geoff Michels joining the fun. The tradition grew into weekly gatherings centered around Monday Night Football and the crafting of these unique decorations, fostering a sense of camaraderie and festive cheer.

Today, Sparkle Ball Lane is a beacon of holiday spirit. Each homeowner brings their own touch to the display, contributing to an ever-growing tapestry of lights that captures the heart of Fullerton. The installation process, starting on the Friday before Thanksgiving and led today by Geoff Michels, is a testament to the community’s commitment to creating a holiday spectacle for all to enjoy.

Throughout the season, you can often spot Michels driving down the street in his lit up golf cart delivering and installing the sparkle balls or on a neighbor’s driveway helping the community build even more. Over the last 20+ years, he and other neighbors have worked together to create hundreds of sparkle balls that now light up not only Yale Avenue (where the tradition began) but also all along Princeton Circle and other side streets within the neighborhood.

Neighbors work together to build sparkle balls on their driveway at $50 a piece for others in the neighborhood.

As you stroll down Sparkle Ball Lane, you’ll be enveloped in a festive atmosphere that’s both heartwarming and awe-inspiring. The sparkle balls, each a labor of love, hang like stars in the night sky, guiding you through a maze of twinkling lights and holiday joy.

This dazzling display is more than just a neighborhood project; it’s a symbol of the close-knit community and the joy of the holiday season. Visitors from near and far are drawn to this hidden gem, finding themselves mesmerized by the glow of the sparkle balls and the festive spirit that envelops the lane.

So, grab your loved ones and make your way to Sparkle Ball Lane in Fullerton. Embrace the festive season in a place where community spirit shines as bright as the decorations. It’s a holiday experience you won’t forget, filled with the magic and wonder of Christmas. Come and be part of a tradition that continues to grow and inspire, year after year.
